A Polymarket alternative on Sui

Predict Bay™ and Polymarket are both prediction markets, and they are not competing for the same trade. Polymarket is an event-market venue on Polygon covering elections, sports, macro releases and other real-world questions. Predict Bay is a short-duration price venue on Sui: a strike is set at the open, you pick above or below, and the round resolves against an on-chain price feed.

Pick by the shape of the question first. “Who wins the election” and “where is BTC in an hour” are different instruments with different resolution problems, and no single venue design is good at both.

Side by side

Compared on design, not on size. The maturity difference in the last row is the one that matters most: Polymarket is live with real money, and Predict Bay is not.

No volume, liquidity, TVL or user figures appear in this table because neither column could be sourced honestly here.

How each one decides who won

An optimistic oracle is a social mechanism wearing a smart contract. Someone proposes the outcome and posts a bond, a challenge window opens, and if nobody disputes within the window the proposal settles. A dispute escalates to a vote of the oracle's token holders, and whichever side is wrong forfeits its bond. It is elegant because it costs almost nothing in the common case, and it is the only mechanism that can settle a question no data feed publishes — which is exactly why an event venue needs one.

A price-feed oracle inverts every one of those properties. DeepBook Predict settles against its on-chain oracle price at expiry: the contract reads the feed, the payoff is arithmetic, and the holder redeems. Nobody proposes anything, there is no window, and there is no vote. The cost is that it only works when a canonical price exists, and it moves the trust question onto the feed — its update cadence, how it aggregates across publishers, and how the contract handles a stale update at the settlement instant.

The practical consequence is simple: an hourly round can only exist on the second design. A challenge window measured in hours cannot resolve a market measured in hours.

Which one you actually want

If the question you want to trade is a real-world event, use an event venue — that is what the optimistic-oracle design is for, and Predict Bay does not list those markets. If the question is a short-horizon crypto price, a price-feed venue settles it without an adjudication step, and Predict Bay is built around that one shape.

And if you want to try Predict Bay today, understand what you are trying: practice mode, with simulated balances, on the real markets and the real feeds. The longer version of this comparison is in Predict Bay vs Polymarket.

Questions

Is Predict Bay a Polymarket alternative?
Only for part of what Polymarket does. Polymarket is an event-market venue covering elections, sports, macro releases and other real-world questions. Predict Bay lists short-duration price markets on five assets and nothing else. If the market you want is “where is BTC in an hour”, Predict Bay is built for it. If it is “who wins the election”, Predict Bay does not list it and is not trying to.
What is the main design difference?
How each venue decides who won. Polymarket uses an optimistic oracle: a proposer asserts the outcome against a bond, a challenge window runs, and disputes escalate to a token-holder vote. Predict Bay reads an on-chain oracle price at expiry — oracle feeds for the underlying — so there is no proposer, no window and no vote. The trade-off is that a price feed can only settle questions that have a canonical price.
Can I use Predict Bay with real money today?
No. Our DeepBook Predict integration targets that protocol’s Sui testnet deployment and is switched off for real funds, and real-money trading on Polygon is paused. Practice mode is what is tradeable on Predict Bay today. Polymarket is live with real money. That difference in maturity matters more than any design difference on this page.
Does Predict Bay need a wallet and a seed phrase?
No. Predict Bay supports Google sign-in through zkLogin, which derives a Sui address without a seed phrase, and transactions can be sponsored so you are not required to hold SUI for gas. Connecting a Sui wallet directly is also supported.
Why does Predict Bay use Sui rather than Polygon?
Settlement latency sets the shortest round a venue can offer. Sui finalises in well under a second, which is what makes an hourly or shorter round practical. A Polygon path does exist in the app, but real-money trading on it is paused.
